I grow therefore I change

EVERY STEP MATTERS.
Every breath is a reminder that I need to grow, because the deeper the breath, the deeper the life in me.
Every sight is a sign that I must grow, because what I see is always bigger than what I am.
Every person I meet challenges me to grow, because there is always something new to learn from others.
Every task I do calls me to grow, because no matter how good I am at what I do, there is always a flaw to correct when I look at my work for the second time.
Every candle of joy in me lights areas that need change in my life, because no matter how good things are, there is always something to change if I do not want the candle to flicker.
Every doubt in me is an invitation to grow, because every mental suspicion keeps me alert about potential challenges to overcome before they become problems to solve.

Every success in my life is a landmark not a destination, because life goes beyond any single achievement, therefore I keep moving forward.
Every failure in my life is a lesson not a disaster, because when I learn from my mistakes and move on, I do greater things thereafter.
For me to grow I need to change, because no one will believe I have grown unless they see qualitative or quantitative change.

Every successful professional, leader or businessperson was a tiny child at a given time.  What they became, what we know them for is a result of every change, no matter how small, that takes place in their lives every second. They are aware of every reminder, every sign, every challenge and every opportunity.  They did not allow their success stories to hinder their progress. They did not sit down in the middle of failure and loneliness. They leveraged on every achievement and learnt from every mistake. Every person they meet counts, because change means nothing to them without others.

We look up to them, we try to emulate them, we learn from their success stories. We have seen them laughing but these are rare joyful moments they shared after they have cried in the dark for a very long time. We have seen them building empires but this happened after aborted projects that costed them a fortune. Their stories do not follow the same trajectory. However, and I am sure about this, they  have two characteristics in common. Firstly, they were able to identify every growing opportunity in every moment and this brought about the change we see today in their lives. Secondly, they were inspired not by their own future but by the future of people around them and understood that they needed to grow in order to bring the change they wanted to see around them.

We have read many success stories. We have learnt about great visions and achievements. Let us change by learning how to grow gradually and that is what this blog is all about. We are not doing it for ourselves. We are doing it for people around us. We are doing it for the world. We are doing it for children who are out of school. We are doing it for the planet. We are doing it to prevent conflicts, epidemic diseases and terrorism. We are doing it to fight cardio-vascular diseases, depression and suicide. We are doing it for a better future.
Let us start this journey together, grow together and make a difference. No matter how small this difference will be, it will bring the change we need.

A WORLD IS COLLAPSING, THE WORLD IS WATCHING. Part II

Facing the World, looking for a new world We are thinking, therefore we are. It is not the end of the world. A world is collapsing but the world will remain. We will survive because we are stronger than this monster. We will conquer it because, without nuclear weapons, our medical professionals are saving lives. Yes, we are fighting with simple hygienic gestures. We are saving lives by washing hands, we are stopping the monster with masks, and we are destroying it with sanitizers, we are protecting our communities by staying home. At the front line, our medical doctors, our nurses and millions of volunteers are inflicting the enemy an enormous defeat on every single battle. They are using every single weapon, including ventilators to redeem millions of lives. Scientists are spending sleepless nights in laboratories searching for the strongest weapon. Yes! We are overcoming Covid19. Our warriors in white, others in blue clothes do not have missiles and heavy weapons. They use ...

NO FEELINGS ATTACHED AT WORK.

“I can’t focus…I don’t hate him but I have the impression that his presence is very distracting. I have been pushing for his promotion so that he can be given a managerial position in one of our branches. Looking at him every morning makes me feel sick”, Carey told her friend Diana. How did it get to this? In 2017, a young graduate was given an internship position in the IT department. Leonardo was under Carey’s supervision. She quickly understood that Leo was bright but, like many graduates, had no experience and was more theoretical than practical. He needed supervision, guidance and mentorship at the same time. Leo is a hardworking, innovative and very respectful young man, no wonder he was given the position of the IT assistant at the bank’s headquarters. “I enjoy working with Carey, she is so professional. My dream was to work in the Banking industry and Carey is the supervisor any young professional can dream of. She did IT engineering at the University of Nairobi. I mean s...
